The Association of Southeast Asian Studies (ASEAS) is pleased to announce two calls for submissions for the ASEAS 2027 Biennial Conference, hosted in partnership with the Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS), University of Warwick, taking place 23-25 June 2027.
As part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening the global Southeast Asian Studies community, the conference will bring together scholars from around the world to share new research, exchange ideas, and build collaborations. Discussions will explore Southeast Asia within the context of global interconnectedness, political change, environmental challenges, cultural flows, and socio-economic transformations, issues that are at the forefront of current academic research.
As ever, the conference serves as a vibrant forum for engaging with the latest scholarship, strengthening global scholarly networks, and contributing to the development of Southeast Asian Studies as a field.
Registration Fees
- Standard: £225 (£200 for current ASEAS members)
- Global South: £125 (£100 for current ASEAS members)
- Student/Retiree: £115 (£100 for current ASEAS members)
- Online Only: £65 (£50 for current ASEAS members)
Please note that the non-member registration fee includes one year of ASEAS membership.

Panel Proposals
Panel Submission Guidelines & Diversity Policy
To foster inclusive dialogue, multidimensional perspectives, and meaningful engagement, all proposed panels must meet the following submission criteria:
Panel Size: Panels must include a minimum of three presenters (excluding the chair or discussant).
Institutional Diversity: Panels must feature presenters representing at least two academic institutions or organisations. Submissions consisting entirely of individuals from a single institution will not be accepted.
Career-Stage Diversity: Panels must incorporate scholars and practitioners across different career stages (e.g., combining graduate students, early career researchers, and senior academics/professionals).
Gender Representation: We are committed to gender equity in all sessions. All-male panel submissions will be rejected without review.
We strongly encourage organisers to actively seek out panelists with diverse backgrounds, identities, and methodological approaches to ensure a rich and rigorous conference program.
